If turmeric isn’t already a beloved addition to your spice cabinet it’s time you add this vibrant herb to your collection. Turmeric is used as a spice in many dishes like curry and yellow rice. It packs a ton of health benefits and is relatively easy to incorporate into many of your favorite recipes. Before we dive-in to this deliciously warming golden milk recipe let’s take a deeper look at the health benefits of turmeric.
Health Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric has been used as a medicinal herb in India for hundreds of years. The active compound curcumin is an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Chronic inflammation in the body has a strong link to diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Consuming turmeric regularly can help fight inflammation in the body.
There is a catch to this ultra healthy herb. Scientists have discovered that curcumin has a hard time with absorption into the bloodstream. It helps to consume black pepper when eating turmeric for it’s health benefits. Black pepper helps to increase the absorption rate by 2,400%.
In addition to turmeric’s high amounts of antioxidants, it also helps to stimulate other antioxidants that may already be in your system. This makes it a double threat by not only neutralizing free radicals in the body, but also strengthening other antioxidants.
The health benefits of this herbal latte alone are enough to add it to your wellness routine, but the subtle spicy yet sweet taste will have you craving it on the regular. If you’re particularly sensitive to caffeine this latte makes a great coffee replacement beverage.
