Where have all the real people gone? Am I the only one who feels like we’re all just a bunch of carbon copies of each other regurgitating the same shit over and over? Even this blog- even this episode has already been done. Is authenticity dead? It’s been hard for me to be part of social media or even be part of society the last few years. I’ve gradually become a recluse. Not because I want to be alone, but because nothing seems genuine anymore.
I find myself craving real conversations with real people. Do any of us remember who we truly are anymore or have aesthetics and identity politics created alter personalities for all of us? In this episode I ponder all of these questions while analyzing the adaptive self vs. the authentic self.

We start to lose authenticity at a young age by trying to please others and wanting to fit in with peers. We want to be accepted! An internal struggle to fit in and be accepted by all the groups in life creates the adaptive self.
- Adaptive Self vs. Authentic Self
Adaptive Self: Prioritizes fitting in, getting along with other, and doing what you’re told; The adaptive self helps one become a functioning member of society. Too much adaptation can make you lose authenticity.
Authentic Self: True to yourself, unafraid to show who you genuinely are without trying to fit in, strong set of personal ideas and beliefs, stand firm in your own identity
